Description

North Cottage at Whites Farm House is a Grade II listed building that has been divided into two residences. The house dates from the mid-16th century at the rear left, with a refronting and additions from the 17th century, and it was extended to the rear in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is exposed on the left-hand return front, with brick infill and brick cladding that includes some blue headers on the front. The roofs are plain tiled.

The building has an L-shaped plan, with the entrance front facing Whites Farm at right angles to the street. It is two storeys high, with four framed bays on the front and two framed bays on the rear wing. A large, central, corbelled stack is located on the front, with an additional stack at the rear. The facade is regular, featuring two 3-light cambered head casement windows on tiled cills on both floors. There is a central projecting gabled porch with a plat band over the ground floor and at the base of the gable, along with an arched entrance. A sundial and a casement window with "1670" picked out in flint work are located on the first floor of the gable. The entrance has an old oak door.

On the right-hand return front, the framing is visible. The left-hand return front, which is the street elevation, also shows visible framing and is partially tile hung. There is a 20th-century extension at the left end, and a glazed door leads to the left, which is North Cottage.
