Description
Merrist Wood Lodge, also known as South Lodge, is a lodge built in 1877 by R. Norman Shaw. It features half-timbering with close stud work and rubblestone walls below. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles. The building is a single storey and is positioned at a 45-degree angle to the road. A tall central ribbed chimney stack with an oversailing top is a prominent feature. There is an attic space beneath a penticed roof dormer on the entrance front. To the left, a gable contains five-light casement windows. The decorative diamond-patterned framing sits over a moulded beam and a stone dado wall to the right. The entrance features a ribbed door with strap-work hinges, set behind an arched entrance in a central porch recess. On the left-hand return front, facing Holly Lane, there are two casement windows and an additional door to the left leading into an extension at the rear.
