Description

North Lodge, also known as Woodpecker Lodge, is a lodge dating from approximately 1877, designed by R. Norman Shaw. It is constructed with close-stud half-timbering and rubblestone walls, with a hipped, plain tiled roof. The lodge is a single storey building, set at a 45-degree angle to the road. A tall central brick stack features an oversailing top. There is an attic space beneath a penticed roof casement former at the front. A gable to the right incorporates a five-light casement window. Decorative, diamond-patterned framing sits above a moulded beam and stone dado wall on the left. A ribbed door with strap-work hinges is located behind an arched entrance recessed within a central porch. The return front facing Holly Lane has two casement windows, with a further door to the right in a rear extension.
