Description

Cedar House is a house with a core dating from the 15th century and a front added in the mid-18th century, along with 20th-century extensions to the rear. The building is timber framed with a red brick front and features a stone-coped parapet that partially obscures a plain tiled Mansard roof. It has ridge stacks located at the left center and ends. The house is two storeys over a basement on the left side, with an attic on the left under a flat-roofed dormer. The structure consists of six bays, with three lower bays on the right. It has glazing bar sash windows set under gauged heads. To the left of center, there is a six-panel door with the top two panels glazed, framed by a Doric pier surround and topped with an open pediment. The left return front includes an angle bay, blocked windows at the center, and 20th-century extensions to the left. The right return features a large stone traceried window from the 15th century, which was brought from Yorkshire in the 1920s. Inside, the room on the left side reveals visible 15th-century framing, with an exposed ceiling frame. There is a deep brick fireplace with a wooden lintel and a stepped brick flue, along with three framed bays, a queen post truss with wind bracing, and a gallery at one end. Oak partitioning and an arched doorway are also present.
