Description

Park Gate Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with 19th-century extensions and remodeling, restored in the 20th century. It is built of Bargate stone rubble with brick quoins at the corners, and some stone blocks with galleting on the right side. The roof is machine tiled. The cottage has two storeys with an attic on the left, featuring a 19th-century tiled gabled dormer with pierced, trefoil-section bargeboards. There are two chimneys to the right of the center.

To the right, there is a lower gabled range that projects, with fishscale tile hanging on the gable and a bellcast over the ground floor. Each floor has a 3-light diamond-pane casement window in the central break, with a pentice over the ground floor window. On the left, there are two first-floor windows and one ground-floor window under a pentice hood. The door is located to the left of center in a steep gabled 19th-century porch that has a 20th-century tiled roof, a pendant finial, and arrowhead coping on heavy bargeboards.

The left-hand return front features cusped bargeboards with roundel ends, deep eaves, and a tiled bellcast at the base of the gable. There is one first-floor window and two ground-floor windows, with the leftmost window under a pentice hood and an oriel window to the right. The cottage is included for its group value as part of a collection of buildings around the Village Green.
