Description
No. 42 Church Street is a house with a shop front below. The building dates from the 16th century at the rear, while the front is from the early 18th century, with a 19th-century addition to the left. The rear is timber framed, and the front is made of whitewashed brick, featuring a wooden eaves cornice above a hipped, plain tiled roof. There is a stack to the right. The building has two storeys, with two bays on the right and one bay for the left-hand addition.
On the first floor to the right, there are two 18th-century glazing bar sash windows, and to the left, there is one 19th-century sash window. The ground floor on the right has a single-storey shop front with a pentice felt roof, which includes two square glazed bays on rendered plinth walls. A recessed glazed door is located between these bays. To the left, there is a projecting plate glass window and a glazed door with intersecting tracery at the left end.
At the rear, the ground floor displays exposed framing with rendered infill.
