Description

No. 63, Church Street, is a house, now partially a shop, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations and refacing in the late 19th century. The building is timber frame with roughcast, stuccoed brick additions, and a slate roof that is half-hipped to the east. It originally comprised three framed bays set at right angles to the road, with a later addition to the east. The front has two distinct blocks, one set back to the left. The upper floor of the left-hand block has a four-pane sash window, with a gable above, and the ground floor has a plate glass shop front. The right-hand block features three small-paned metal casement windows on the upper floor, with a semi-dormer window on the right-hand side; two four-pane sashes and a small casement window on the ground floor. A half-glazed door is situated on the right-hand side. Inside, the easternmost three bays reveal a ground-floor ceiling from the 16th century, featuring heavily moulded cross beams and joists with run-out stops.
