Description
No. 47 on Church Street is a house and shop dating from the 17th century, with refacing and additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is timber framed, featuring painted brick nogging and a limestone rubble plinth, with the front stuccoed to mimic ashlar. It has a slate roof and is likely composed of two framed bays, with the first floor extending over a carriageway on the right side. The structure is two storeys tall and has an integral brick end stack on the left.
The framing consists of square panels that are concealed. On the first floor, there are three mid- to late-20th century metal casement windows. The ground floor features a mid-19th century four-pane sash window, which is positioned off-centre to the left. To the left of the sash window, there is a four-panelled door that has two flush bottom panels, a pilastered surround, and a bracketed straight hood. To the right, the mid-19th century shop front includes a nine-pane window on the left, a 20th century glazed door on the right, and a pilastered surround with a frieze and bracketed cornice. Inside the carriageway on the right, the framing is exposed.
