Description
Nos. 54 and 56 Church Street are a house dating from around 1600, which was substantially altered and refaced in the early 19th century. The building is timber frame construction, with a rendered exterior and a slate roof. It likely originally comprised two framed bays. The house is two storeys high, with deep eaves and a rendered integral stack on the front, positioned slightly left of centre. The first floor has two 19th-century wooden cross windows. The ground floor features late-20th-century casement windows on either side of a late-20th-century half-glazed door, which is also positioned slightly right of centre. A boarded passageway door is located on the left. Inside, there is evidence of a former first-floor jetty, which was likely underpinned during the early 19th-century alterations. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the street.
