Description

House, dating from the late 16th century. It is timber framed, with painted rendered infill, some limestone rubble, and a slate roof. The building has two framed bays set at a right angle to the road. There are two storeys. A stone stack is integrated into the north side, with a red brick top stage, and a later 19th-century stack is at the rear. The framing consists of square panels on the south side, and close studding with a center rail facing the front. The front gable is jettied with a moulded bressumer and carved bracket, and contains mid-20th century timberwork suggesting a mixed king post and queen strut truss, with parallel diagonal framed infill panels underneath. Originally, the first floor was also jettied with a moulded bressumer, but this has now been underbuilt, likely incorporating former front wall framing. A 20th-century two-light, diamond-leaded casement window is on the first floor, and further 20th-century diamond-leaded casements and a boarded door are on the ground floor. There is a gap in the framing, and mortices for diamond-shaped mullions in the underside of the gable bressumer, indicating a former central first-floor oriel window. Inside, there are corner fireplaces with chamfered lintels.
