Description
60 and 62 West End are two houses that were originally built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made around 1860 to 1870. The buildings are constructed from limestone rubble, with No. 62 featuring mid-19th century stucco and rusticated pilaster strips on the left side. They have a gabled roof, with concrete tiles on the left and stone slates on the right, and stone end stacks finished in brick.
The houses have a two-unit plan and are two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-window range. No. 60, on the right, has segmental stone arches above a late 19th century panelled door, a tripartite sash window, and two 2-pane sash windows. No. 62 features a late 19th century four-panelled door with an overlight and two 2-pane sash windows. Both houses have two gabled roof dormers.
There is a two-storey projection at the front of No. 62 that is stuccoed and topped with a hipped concrete tile roof. At the rear, there is an early 18th century two-storey wing on the right and a mid-19th century wing on the left. Inside No. 60, there are stop-chamfered beams, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer on the right, quarter-turn stairs, and a collar-truss roof with butt purlins. The buildings are included for their group value.
