Description
34 and 36 Bristol Street are a pair of houses dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of limestone rubble, featuring a brick party wall stack, and have a stone slate roof on the left side and interlocking tiles on the right. The houses have a single-depth, three-room plan and are single storey with an attic, displaying a one-to-three window range.
No. 34 has a left-hand entrance located in the gable, which features a four-panel door. It has timber lintels above horned plate-glass sashes with margin panes, a similar single ground-floor sash on the street front, and a small light in the apex. No. 36 has a right-hand recessed doorway and three 19th-century casements, with the two left-hand ones set in former doorways. It also has two outer gabled dormers with casements.
Inside No. 36, which was altered around 1980, there is a three-bay roof with tenoned purlins and lapped cambered collars. The left-hand chimney breast has been altered, and in the basement, there is a curved section of wall against the street to the left of the chimney, which is part of a former stair.
