Description
Nos. 18 and 20 on Queen Street are two houses with distinct architectural features. No. 20 dates from the late 17th century and was altered in the 19th century, with its eaves raised. It is built of coursed limestone rubble and has a gabled artificial stone slate roof with brick end stacks. The house has a two-unit plan, two storeys, and a two-window range. It features timber lintels over a 19th-century four-panelled door and flanking two- and three-light casements, as well as a timber lintel over a firelight to the left and late 19th-century first-floor casements. A stone chamfered stair-light is located at the rear left. The interior includes chamfered and boxed beams, along with winder stairs.
No. 18, built in the mid-18th century, is also constructed of coursed limestone rubble and has a gabled concrete tile roof with a brick end stack. It has a one-unit plan, two storeys, and a one-window range. This house features timber lintels over a 20th-century door and 19th-century two- and three-light casements. The interior is noted for having a chamfered beam. Both houses are included for their group value.
