Description

This is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions added in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble, with the left side being uncoursed and the right side coursed. The roof is gabled and thatched, with stone slates on the right-hand bay, also featuring a stone ridge stack and a brick rear lateral stack. The house originally followed a three-unit through-passage plan. It is two storeys high, with a three-window front. A timber lintel sits above a 20th-century plank front door. Mid-18th century segmental brick arches are above 20th-century two-light casement windows, and a window on the right replaces what was originally a blocked mid-18th century carriage entry. Timber lintels are over the first-floor two-light casement windows. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. Inside, the ground floor has chamfered beams and the right side has chamfered joists. There is an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer to the right of the passage, and another chamfered bressumer above a fireplace to the rear left, alongside old winder stairs. Old winder stairs are located to the rear of the centre of the house. Parts of a possible cruck truss are visible above the central stack.
