Description

House. Probably dating from the 17th century, it was remodelled in the early 18th century and altered in the late 19th century. The house was likely originally timber-framed. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled tile roof and brick end stacks. The building follows a two-unit plan with a central through-passage. It has one storey and an attic, with a three-window front. The windows are late 19th-century three-light casements, with chamfered timber lintels over the 20th-century front door. Late 19th-century gabled half-dormers, featuring bargeboards and matching casements, light the attic. A 20th-century extension projects from the rear. Inside, a stop-chamfered beam is visible on the left. The room to the right contains a chamfered beam and joists, an early 18th-century panelled door, and a straight-flight staircase with turned balusters on a closed string. The roof is a three-bay collar-truss design, with butt purlins; the tie beam and wall plate of the central truss have been cut away.
