Description
This building is a barn and stable located approximately 30 meters southwest of The Close in Appleton, dating from the 17th century. It features old lapped oak weatherboarding over a timber frame set on a limestone rubble plinth, topped with a gabled thatch roof. The structure has a 5-bay plan, with a stable on the left side of the 4-bay barn. There are old plank double doors leading to the threshing floor, and a 17th-century plank door with a Norfolk latch for the stable. The stable also has a plank loft door with old strap hinges in the left gable. Inside, there is a weatherboard partition separating the stable, which includes an oak stall and manger for two horses, along with a cobbled floor. The roof is a 5-bay queen-post design featuring clasped purlins, arch-braced posts, and windbraces.
