Description
This building is a barn, now used as a store and garage, located approximately 25 meters northeast of Appleton House. It dates from the early 18th century and features 20th-century weatherboarding over a timber frame set on a limestone rubble plinth. The roof is gabled and thatched. The barn has a three-bay plan with a central threshing floor and includes 20th-century double doors. Inside, there is a three-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins and braced posts that have moulded soffits at the jowls.
Attached to the barn is a remodelled stone stable on the right, which connects to a high wall made of limestone rubble with a flat brick coping that extends for 17 meters to a gateway adjoining a similar wall connected to Appleton House. There is also a similar wall approximately 5 meters long attached to an outbuilding about 40 meters north of Appleton House. This building is included for its group value.
