Description

No. 57 East St Helen Street is a building dated 1732, featuring a symmetrical design. It has two storeys and attics, topped with a tile roof and three gabled dormers. The exterior is rendered, with casement windows that include glazing bars set in moulded flush frames. A coved rendered eaves cornice adds to its elegance.

The corners of the building are accentuated by brick pilasters that consist of thirteen panels and a plinth block. The central door, which has a window above it, is flanked by full-height brick pilasters. There are five segmental arch windows with wood frames, double hung sashes, and original glazing bars. Instead of keystones, there are carved stone cherub masks, except for the central window which features the inscription 'RRE 1732' on its keystone. The eaves cornice projects forward at the corners and center above the pilasters.

Windows have red brick architraves, blue brick between them, and a chequered brick pattern beneath. The ground floor windows have stone keystones and later glazing bars. There are two cellar windows with stone lintels and keystones, and a plinth at the base. Access to the building is via two steps leading to a six-fielded door, which is supported by plain pilasters and scroll brackets that hold up an open pediment. An attractive glazed fanlight completes the entrance.
