Description

This is a 17th-century timber-framed building located at 36 and 38 East St Helen Street. The ground floor is constructed of coursed rubble, while the upper stories are roughly rendered. The roof is tiled, featuring two gables. A small window is visible in the right-hand gable. Number 36 has a 19th-century three-light sash window on the first floor. The ground floor of Number 36 features a six-panelled, carved wooden door with a flat wooden lintel, and a later three-light window which is now boarded up. A rubble plinth is present, and there is a 19th-century window to the right of the entrance archway. The door to Number 38 is inset under the archway to the right, with a four-panel wooden architrave. At the rear, steps lead to a loading door on the first floor. A projecting wing with two gables and a tiled roof extends to the left. The building was derelict at the time of the survey. Numbers 2 to 60 (even) form a group.
