Description
Nos. 43 and 45 East Street Helen Street form one building dating to the early 19th century. The front is rendered in stucco. The building is three storeys high and features three prominent Doric pilasters, one central and two flanking, defining the facade. The central bay has two windows arranged beneath a flat arch with a keystone, the windows being double-hung sashes with glazing bars; this decorative band also continues as the cills. The first floor has two flat arched windows, each contained within a moulded arch with keystones on impost bands. A wood cornice sits between the ground and first floors. No. 45 has an additional moulded cornice supported by carved brackets. The ground floor features two windows set within moulded flush frames, each with double-hung sashes and glazing bars. The entrance to both properties consists of two six-panel doors, flanked by fluted pilasters with roundels and a rectangular fanlight above. A foot scraper is present. Nos. 43 to 61 (odd numbers) combine to form a visually cohesive group.
