Description

Close Cottage is a house dating from around 1600, with later alterations. It has a rendered plinth, large timber framing with roughcast infill, and a thatched roof with a brick ridge in the centre. The house is a two-storey, two-window range set at a right angle to the street. The window arrangement is irregular, with casement windows, except for an angled oriel window on the first floor to the left. A 20th-century door leads to a lean-to addition on the left return. The rear of the house has catslide projections in the centre, and ribbon casements on the first floor to the right. Inside, the house features a Queen-post roof with windbraces, a 20th-century winder staircase, and open fireplaces on both the ground and first floors.
