Description
The Limes is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 18th century, with a 17th-century gable wall and a front that was added around 1800. The building is constructed from limestone rubble with brick dressings, some areas are rendered, and there is timber framing with brick infill. It features a Welsh-slate roof with a brick gable stack and has a central-stair plan. The house is two storeys high, plus attics, and has a symmetrical three-window rendered front that rises from a rubble and brick plinth. The front includes a central four-panel door with a decorative rectangular overlight and a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets, along with 16-pane sash windows. The roof has a stack on the right side. The right gable wall and the rear of the building are made of rubble with brick dressings and a storey band, and the moulded-brick plinth weathering continues from the front. The rear was previously symmetrical and featured segmental arches on the ground floor. The left gable, which rises above the roof of Green Cottage, is timber framed. Inside, there is a dog-leg stair leading to the attics, featuring a closed string, heavy turned balusters, and winders. The interior also includes early 18th-century bolection panelling, a stone fireplace, curved alcoves, and cornices. There is an attached range of rubble and tile outbuildings that runs behind Green Cottage, which may have served as a service wing.
