Description

The Limes is a farmhouse dated around 1731, constructed from coursed squared ironstone with a plain tile roof and brick end stacks. It features a central staircase plan with two units, standing three storeys high and comprising a four-window range. A six-panel door is located to the left of centre, sheltered by a wide semi-circular trellis porch. To the right of the door are narrow upright windows, with similar windows above on the first and second floors, all having timber lintels. A datestone with a hood mould is positioned in the middle of the first floor between the windows, inscribed with M/JD/1731(?), though the figures are somewhat worn. To the left of the door is a single-storey bay window with a hipped roof and a brick base, featuring 2-light wood mullion and transom windows above. There are additional 2-light casement windows on the ground and first floors to the far right, and on the second storey to the left and far right, all except the bay window having timber lintels. The building has quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. To the left, there is a lower two-storey addition with a single window, which has a 3-light casement window on the ground floor and a 2-light wood mullion and transom window on the first floor, both with timber lintels. An attached outbuilding range is located to the far left. Inside, the farmhouse features boxed spine beams and a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters.
