Description

The Old Plume of Feathers is a former inn, now a house, dating to the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a slate roof and has brick end and ridge stacks, the end stacks sitting on stone bases. The building follows a three-unit, through-passage plan. It is three storeys high with a three-window front. The left-hand side features a six-panel, part-glazed door within a reeded timber surround, topped with a plain frieze and cornice-hood. A three-light leaded casement window is located to the left, and a three-light wood mullion and transom window is to the right, with a pair of horned sash windows to the far right. The upper floors have three-light casement windows. All windows have stop-chamfered timber lintels. A contemporary or early 19th century red brick extension is located to the left, characterised by flared headers. This extension includes a two-light window with a segmental head on the ground floor, and a plain tiled lean-to roof with gablets. The interior has not been inspected.
