Description

Brown's Piece is a farmhouse, now a house, dating to 1777, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with wooden lintels and has an old plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The two-storey main front has a doorway positioned to the left of centre, a blocked doorway to its right, and a single-light window above. The outer bays feature renewed three-light casement windows. A datestone on the right gable is inscribed “I(L?)/1777”. A rear wing, returning to the left, contains additional casement windows and has been extended in a matching style. The interior includes a large brick open fireplace with inglenooks and chamfered beams.
