Description

The Inn Cottage is an inn that has been converted into a house, dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with later additions from the 18th and 20th centuries. The building features timber framing with plastered infill, coursed squared limestone rubble, and a combination of thatch and old plain-tile roofs. It has a two-unit lobby-entry plan connected to a single unit, with one storey plus an attic and two storeys in height. The right half of the front is obscured by a 20th-century link to an 18th-century stone unit on the left. The framing of the main range includes straight braces and there is a blocked original window at the rear. The two-storey stone unit has segmental-arched windows. The thatched roof of the main range sweeps over small dormers and features a central brick stack, while the tiled roof of the wing has a rubble gable stack. Inside, there is a blocked fireplace with an elaborately chamfer-stopped bressumer, a flanking winder stair, chamfered beams, straight windbraces, and a large open fireplace in the stone wing.
