Description
The Chequers is a house that has been converted into an inn, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has an L-plan shape with a short range extending to the rear on the right side. It stands two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. The windows are mid to late 19th century casements with wedged lintels, all having three lights, except for the central window on the first floor which has two lights. There is a central 20th-century boarded door located beneath a contemporary open half-hipped porch. The roof has gabled dormers on both the left and right slopes, and there are integral end stacks with stepped red brick capping. Attached to the left gable end is a single-storey projection with a hip roof. Inside, the left ground-floor room of the main range features a chamfered spine beam.
