Description
Church Cottage is a small house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with further 17th-century elements and a 20th-century extension. It features timber framing with brick and plastered infill, as well as coursed squared limestone. The roof is covered with old plain tiles and has brick stacks. Originally designed with a two-bay plan, it has been increased to three bays and further extended. The house has one storey plus an attic. The earlier bays on the front left retain some original framing, while the 17th-century added bay is constructed of stone, which also forms the left gable wall that extends to the front and rear. The windows include 20th-century casements and dormers, and there is a reconstructed oven projection. The roof has stacks positioned to the left of center and at the right gable. The rear of the house retains sections of old framing and has a small 20th-century extension. Inside, there is a large open fireplace with rebuilt brick jambs, a small bedroom fireplace with a curved moulded-brick back, some heavy joists, and straight windbraces. The building is included for its group value.
