Description
Corble Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with extensions likely added in the late 17th to early 18th century. It features timber framing with some brick infill and tile hanging, topped by an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The building has a 2-unit lobby-entry plan with a rear wing and is two storeys plus an attic high. The front of the farmhouse is partly hidden by a single-storey brick kitchen extension, but it reveals some exposed framing on the right side, which includes a 4-panel door and a leaded 2-light casement window. The other walls are tile hung, with a 4-pane sash window and a 2-light casement on the left gable wall, and leaded casements with 3 and 4 lights on the right gable wall. The roof features a large central stack with four shafts. The rear wing, which is one storey plus an attic, is also tile hung over framing. The front wing has narrow bricks at the lower level, a rounded bread-oven projection, and a gable parapet with projecting kneelers made of moulded brick. Inside, the farmhouse showcases exposed framing with heavy curved braces, a massive central stack, old winder stairs leading to both floors with wood-latched doors, and a curved windbrace in the roof.
