Description
The Grapes Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and later. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with roughcast on the first floor and to the left side. It features a gabled roof covered with artificial stone slates and has brick stacks at both ends and along the ridge.
The layout consists of three units, with a two-storey bay on the left that includes a 20th-century door and a 19th-century five-light casement window, along with a 20th-century window above a jettied section. The central part of the building is jettied and has two storeys plus an attic, with a four-window range. There is a 20th-century door to the right and horned six-pane sash windows. The building also has two gabled roof dormers.
To the right, there is a late 18th-century cottage that is one storey with an attic. Its front has a three-window range featuring timber lintels over horned six-pane sashes and two gabled dormers.
Inside, the inn has chamfered beams and a central open fireplace.
