Description
Jackson's Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century, with a mid to late 18th century extension at the rear and mid 19th century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof, which has mid 19th century terracotta coping at the front and brick stacks at the ends. The layout is a two-unit plan that extends to an L-shape with a rear left wing.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window range. It includes a mid 19th century bracketed gabled hood and a timber lintel over a 19th century plank door, which is set within a restored ovolo-moulded wood architrave featuring sunk spandrels. Above the door, there is an early 17th century two-light window, and there are also three-light ovolo-moulded wood-mullioned windows with leaded lights. Similar windows are found on the gable ends and at the rear. The rear wing is built with similar materials and has an outshut, along with a 18th century four-light window that features a central diamond-set King mullion to the right.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts bar-stopped chamfered beams and first-floor boiled beams, along with early 19th century panelled shutters and a mid 19th century inserted staircase located centrally. Chamfered beams are also present in the rear wing.
