Description

House, built in 1907 by C.R. Ashbee. The house has roughcast walls with limestone ashlar dressings and a rubble plinth. The porch is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, and the roof is gabled and covered in stone slate, with stone ridge stacks. It is arranged in an L-shape, with a three-bay front range and a two-storey porch set on the angle of the wings. A pointed, moulded arched doorway features an inscription reading “HEA/1907” above it. Inside the porch is a half-glazed door set in a cyma-moulded wood architrave, with decorative iron fittings. The windows are tall sashes with glazing bars, set in moulded wood architraves. A wide, pointed tympanum arch with raised voussoirs is above the sashes in the left gable end, and there is an oeil-de-boeuf window in the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. C.R. Ashbee was a leading architect of the Arts and Crafts Movement, known for his skill in metalwork.
