Description

The Plough Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn, dated 1772, with late 18th century or early 19th century additions and further alterations made in the late 20th century. It is constructed from roughly squared and coursed limestone with stone dressings and features a thatched roof. The building has a two-unit plan with additions on both the left and right sides, which can be seen from the straight joint on the right.

It stands two storeys tall, with a one-storey addition to the left. The inn has integral brick end stacks and a three-window front, featuring segmental-headed wooden casements with stone voussoirs and cills. The ground-floor windows are fitted with beaded flush-panelled shutters. The doorway is located between the first and second windows from the left and consists of a pair of 20th-century two-panelled doors beneath a flat arch with a raised keystone that is dated.

The one-storey addition to the left has a truncated stone ridge stack, and its openings were altered in the 20th century. Inside, the layout has been opened out; it was previously a through passage with rooms on either side. The interior features chamfered spine beams and plain joists, along with an inglenook fireplace in the right-hand ground-floor room.
