Description
Willow Cottage is a small house that dates from the early to mid 17th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is built of coursed limestone rubble and features wooden lintels, topped with a Welsh-slate roof and a rebuilt brick gable stack. The house has a single-unit plan that has been enlarged, standing two storeys plus an attic. The front of the earlier section displays renewed 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors, along with a 20th-century dormer. The left gable wall has a large rubble chimney projection with sloping offsets and a small window featuring an old chamfered frame. To the right, a 20th-century bay window projects outwards, replacing an earlier cottage that may have been connected to the existing structure at some point.
Inside, the ground floor contains a large open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer, along with heavy stop-chamfered beams and joists, all marked with assembly numbers. The first floor features a chamber fireplace with a cambered stop-chamfered bressumer, and the beams and joists here are of a similar but slightly lighter pattern. All joists have soffit tenons with diminished haunches, and there is a winder stair leading to the attic, as well as some old plank doors.
