Description
Wendlebury House and Wendlebury Lodge is a manor house that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the early to mid-18th century, likely incorporating an earlier structure. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar, squared coursed rubble, and random rubble, topped with a plain-tile roof featuring rebuilt stacks. It is a single range with rear additions and has two storeys plus an attic.
The left side of the front features a symmetrical five-window ashlar section that slightly projects forward under a parapet and cornice. This section includes rusticated quoins, a storey band, and moulded architraves. The entrance has a panelled door with an ornamental overlight, sheltered by a stone canopy supported by Tuscan columns and corresponding pilasters. All windows in this section are 12-pane sashes.
To the right, there is a six-window range made of squared rubble, which has an earlier front with a dentil cornice and storey band. The sashes here have wooden lintels, including one blind window, and a large window at the ground floor is an early 20th-century alteration. The entire building has a continuous steep-pitched roof with a hipped roof dormer.
The rear wall, primarily made of rubble, is mostly hidden by additions but retains some leaded casements behind the ashlar section and large lunettes behind the rubble section. Inside, there is a mid-18th-century dog-leg stair with turned balusters and ramped handrails, as well as a late 18th-century Adam-style fireplace.
