Description
1 Franklin Close is a pair of houses that have been combined into a single dwelling. The left-hand house dates from the early 17th century, while the right-hand house is from the late 18th century.
The buildings are constructed from coursed limestone rubble. The left-hand house features a thatched roof, while the right-hand house has a stone slate roof. Both houses are two storeys tall. The left-hand house has a three-unit plan and includes 19th-century three-light casements. Its left bay has 19th-century plank doors leading to the main entrance and loft, with a brick ridge stack and a stone end stack. The right-hand house has a two-unit plan and features a brick end stack, a 19th-century plank door, and three-light casements set beneath timber lintels.
The interior has not been surveyed. No. 1 Franklin Close is designated Grade II due to its early fabric, representing a pair of vernacular stone cottages from the 17th and 18th centuries.
