Description

The Cottage is a late 17th-century house located on the south side of Westlands Avenue in Weston on the Green. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with some wooden lintels, and has an interlocking tile roof with a brick gable stack. Originally a two-unit plan, it features added end outshuts. The symmetrical three-window front, now at the rear, includes a blocked central doorway and flanking two-light casement windows, all with stone flat arches. Similar windows are present at the first floor, with chamfered lintels, except for the central window which has been reduced in size. A datestone above the doorway is inscribed 'I/RC (?)/16(??)'. A rebuilt stack is positioned on the left gable. The right end wall features a projection for a bread oven. The rear elevation has irregular casement windows and the present main entrance, all with chamfered lintels, and a central rounded stair projection containing a spiral stair. The interior has not been inspected.
