Description

Village Shop and Bell View is a building that consists of two houses now serving as a shop and a residence. It has origins dating back to the 17th century, with the roof raised in the 18th century. The structure is made of uncoursed ironstone and squared coursed ironstone, topped with a 20th-century tile roof, featuring stone ridge and end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic high, with a four-window range.

There are two entrances, each fitted with 20th-century doors and wooden lintels. To the right, there is a 20th-century rustic porch with a hipped 20th-century tile roof. Each entrance is flanked by 20th-century two-light metal windows that have stone flat arches. The first floor features four similar two-light windows with stone flat arches. The roof includes four large gabled 20th-century dormers. At the rear, there is a gabled two-storey staircase projection.

Inside the house on the right, there is a stop-chamfered beam, an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and a wooden spiral staircase with a newel post made from a single piece of wood approximately 28 feet in length. It is said that the building was originally thatched, with stone slates beneath the thatch.
