Description
The Old Bakehouse is a late 18th-century building that was originally two houses but is now a single dwelling. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and squared, coursed ironstone, topped with a steeply pitched slate roof. The gables are stone coped, and it features a stone end stack along with blue brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a 4-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a five-window range.
The entrance, located on the right, is accessed by two semi-circular stone steps and features a panelled glazed door with a wood lintel above. There is a cast-iron bookscraper present. To the left, there is a blocked entrance that has been altered to include a 20th-century window. The ground floor showcases three- and four-light metal casements set in wood frames, all adorned with keyblock stone heads. On the first floor, there are five three-light casements, also in wood frames, with either keyblock heads or wood lintels. The roof includes two 20th-century dormers and a skylight.
Inside, the building boasts an inglenook fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer, two bread ovens—one of which has a stone lining—plank doors, chamfered beams, and a small cupboard featuring wrought-iron butterfly hinges.
