Description

The Old Pound is a house located on Wroxton Shutford Road in Balscote. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched roof covered with 20th-century tiles. There are rendered stone ridge stacks with renewed brick shafts.

The house has a three-unit through-passage plan and is two storeys high, with a three-window range. The approximately central entrance is highlighted by a gabled stone porch that has a chamfered, arched doorway, leading to a panelled and glazed door. This entrance is flanked by renewed three-light windows that have chamfered wood lintels. The first floor also features three similar windows. At the rear, there is a three-light 18th-century wood casement window along with some 20th-century windows. Additionally, there is a single-storey extension added in the 20th century.

The interior is reported to include an inglenook fireplace, chamfered beams, and stone flag floors, although the interior has not been inspected.
