Description
Peacehaven is a pair of cottages that have been converted into a house, dating back to the 17th century. The building is constructed from coursed and uncoursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched thatched roof with a brick ridge stack. It has a two-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic.
The entrance includes a 20th-century door set within an opening that has a substantial stone lintel. On either side of the entrance are renewed three-light casement windows with original wooden lintels. The right gable features a 20th-century French door with a hood lintel, above which is a renewed two-light casement window.
Inside, there is a straight flight stair that leads to the attic, with a plank door at the foot of the stair, equipped with a wooden latch and strap hinges. The interior also includes an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and a recess for a bread oven. The ceilings have stop-chamfered beams. Historical records suggest that the building dates back to the early 17th century and was originally two separate dwellings, with one of them having a ladder stair leading to the attic floor. The floors are made of stone flags.
