Description
Church House is a house located on Lower Street, dating from the early 18th century, with additions and alterations from the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It is constructed of ironstone with limestone dressings and has a mid-20th century pantile roof. The building features coped gables with kneelers and has two gable and one ridge brick stacks. It stands two storeys plus attics and consists of five bays, with the openings arranged in a pattern of one, three, and one.
The south front has an off-centre mid-20th century door with an overlight, and both floors are fitted with 6/6 sash windows, all featuring keystoned flat arches. The attic includes five flat-roofed dormers with glazing bar casements. The gables have glazing bar sashes and casements, one on each floor. At the rear, there is an off-centre tent-roofed bay window, and to the left, a mid-20th century canted porch in the return angle. Above this porch, to the left, are three 2-light leaded casements.
Inside, the building retains a principal rafter roof. The mid-20th century rear wing is not considered to have special architectural interest.
