Description

Ashgate Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of ironstone with limestone dressings and has a mid-20th century plain tile roof. The building features a plinth, a band at first floor level, and single gable and ridge brick stacks. It is two storeys high with an attic, and comprises three bays within a single range.

The south front has a recessed 19th-century door to the right, which is a five-panel door with an overlight and a simple surround. To the left of the door are two iron-framed, leaded casement windows, and to the right, a single similar casement. Above these, the fenestration is similar. All the front openings are topped with keystoned flat arches. Above the first floor, there are three flat-roofed 20th-century dormers. The rear elevation contains 20th-century casements and doors, alongside 19th-century doors. On the upper floor to the right are two early 19th-century casement windows with wooden lintels.

Inside, a straight staircase from the 18th century has stick balusters and a moulded handrail. Two rooms contain original 18th-century two-panel fielded doors.
