Description

Desborough War Memorial is located in a war memorial garden at the junction of Lower Street and High Street, north of the Grade I-listed Anglican and Methodist Church of St Giles and opposite the Services Club, which is Grade II-listed. The monument features a 4-meter high granite monolith that is four-sided and slightly tapering. It is set on a raised grass area, surrounded by a low iron railing supported by short granite posts.

At the front of the monolith, there is a bronze plaque with the inscription "1914-1919/ THEIR NAME LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE." On either side of the monolith, additional bronze plaques list the names of the town’s 116 First World War dead. The rear face includes bronze plaques commemorating those who died in the Second World War, as well as a stone plaque dedicated to those who have fallen in later conflicts, inscribed with "IN MEMORY OF THOSE/ WHO HAVE DIED ON DUTY/ IN THE ARMED SERVICES POST 1945/ (1 NAME)."

Behind the memorial, three flower beds defined by iron railings, which are contemporary with the memorial, form a semi-circle. At the north-west corner of the memorial garden, there is a granite post with a bronze plaque that records the garden’s gift to the town.
