Description

The Chandos Road War Memorial is a war memorial erected in 1920. It was re-sited in 2000 and restored in 2014. The memorial consists of a roughly-hewn granite monolith with a pointed top, standing approximately 2 meters high. The upper part of the east face is dressed and features an inscription in black lettering that reads: "THIS MEMORIAL IS DEDICATED / BY RELATIVES / TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND / TO THE MEMORY OF THEIR DEAR ONES / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1920 / 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'." Above this inscription is a bronze plaque depicting the Lamb of God. Below the inscription, there are two further dressed areas that bear the names of the Fallen. The monolith is set upon a stone plinth and is elevated above ground level.

Surrounding features include a stone kerb to the north and east of the memorial. To the south, there is a section of walling topped with railings, which was part of the boundary of the former churchyard. At the rear of the memorial is a boundary wall belonging to No. 23 Chandos Road. It is noted that the walls to the rear and south of the war memorial are not of special architectural or historic interest and are not included in the listing.
