Description

The Fairburn War Memorial is a war memorial built in 1924, made of Portland stone. It takes the form of a simple obelisk that stands about 4 meters tall, raised on a single step. The memorial features inscriptions on two faces.

On the west face, the inscription reads:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN MEMORY OF THE
FOLLOWING MEN FROM THIS
PARISH WHO FELL IN THE
GREAT WAR 1914-1918.

This is followed by ten names and the phrase:

GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS
THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR
HIS FRIENDS.

The north face has a nearly identical inscription, with 'Great War 1914-1918' replaced by 'WAR 1939-1945', followed by eight names.
