Description

The Church of St Mary the Virgin features a group of six headstones located approximately 4 meters south of the south chapel. These headstones date from the mid-17th century to around 1700 and are made of limestone and marlstone.

One marlstone headstone commemorates Bridgs, who died in 1703, and has a moulded rectangular panel flanked by flower drops, topped with a segmental-pedimented head. Another headstone honors Henry Bridges, who died in 1707, featuring an oval cartouche adorned with foliage and a cherub's head. There is also a headstone dated 170(?) that includes a small rectangular panel framed by festoons and drops beneath a scrolled head. The first two headstones display the sacred monogram in front of a cross, suggesting they likely commemorate Roman Catholics.

In addition, there are three small plain limestone headstones with scrolled heads, commemorating Sara Wing, who died in 1649, William Wing, who died in 1691, and Margaret Wing, who died in 1695.
