Description

Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring some ashlar dressings and wooden lintels, and has roofs made of Stonesfield slate and Welsh slate, along with stone and brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan with a long rear wing, which has been extended to four units.

The farmhouse stands two storeys plus an attic, with a two-storey main range that has a four-window front. This front was altered in the early 19th century from a five-window arrangement and now features 12-pane sash windows at the first floor and a mix of 12, 16, and 12-pane sashes at ground level, with the third bay replacing two narrower bays. Only the ground-floor window in the first bay retains an ashlar flat arch with a projecting keyblock, although traces of similar arches can be seen in the wall. The doorway in the second bay has a six-panel door set within an elaborate 19th-century wooden porch, with a blind window above it.

To the left, there is a two-storey 19th-century section that likely incorporates earlier walling at ground level, now featuring a two-light casement above a pair of sashes. The right end wall has pairs of windows on both floors, plus a gable window; most of these are blocked, but some still have two-light casements. The rear range, originally a single storey, has five windows with varied casements from different periods. The rear of the main range includes a wide gabled projection that houses the staircase and features a broad lateral stack at the junction of the ranges, with a moulded stone string above the rubble base. The gable wall of the rear wing has a smaller similar stack.

Inside, the farmhouse mostly contains 19th-century details. The property is located near the site of the deserted village of Nethercote.
