Description

This group consists of a chest tomb, five headstones, and a footstone, located approximately 10 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary. The chest tomb dates from 1795, while the headstones are from the late 17th century and early 18th century. They are made of carved and moulded ironstone. The chest tomb features fluted corners and a moulded shallow-pitched top. One headstone, dated 1723, has a scrolled pediment with a winged head, flanked by lamps, and includes composite half-columns, elaborate swag and drapery, and a shaped panel with an inscription to Elizabeth Ward. An early 18th-century headstone has a shaped top with a winged head and a cartouche within a large wreath. A headstone dated 1680 features a scrolled top with swag, volutes with drapery, and a sunk panel. Another late 17th-century headstone has a segmental top, an open segmental pediment, a winged head, and tassels, along with an entablature adorned with leaf scrolls, composite half-columns, and a moulded fielded panel with two heads. The headstone dated 1691 has a shaped top with scrolls, volutes with drapery, and a sunk panel. The plain footstone, dated 1680, has an ogee top.
