Description

This is a group of a chest tomb and three headstones located approximately 0.5 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St. Botolph. The chest tomb dates from 1785, while the headstones are from the late 17th century and early 18th century. They are made of carved and moulded ironstone. The chest tomb features a moulded plinth and top, with square corner balusters. The north and south sides have two fielded panels each, while the east and west sides have one panel each. One headstone, dated 1667, has a scrolled top adorned with a vase of flowers and a moulded panel, with foliage carving on the sides. It bears an inscription to Thomas Dumslett. Another headstone from the late 17th century has a shaped scrolled top with vases of flowers and Ionic pilasters, and its spandrels feature winged heads along with a heart-shaped panel decorated with flowers and foliage. The third headstone, from the early 18th century, displays a festoon with two winged heads and a central skull.
